The inspiration for this page was largely influenced by the writings of:

Mr John Brignell
And his excellent book
Sorry, Wrong Number
ISBN: 0-9539108-0-6

If you’re into real statistics, numbers and truths then I suggest a read, as it is a breath of fresh air, coming from an educated and intelligent person, compared to many of our so called experts. Just do a search for his name and find numerous articles about the fallacies of many laws, ideas and opinions of this age.

It is in some ways a little worrying that anyone can write anything on a WEB page, and it is regarded as a fact, the same as if it had been published in a book or magazine. But unlike those it may have no real basis, not have been proof read by someone else and could be complete fiction.

When it comes to energy use - destruction of the planet - or just being trendy, here's a little rhyme to remember:

IF IT'S COOL TO THE TOUCH, IT'S NOT USING MUCH!

IF IT'S HOT, IT'S USING A LOT!

Remember these words, check out you’re TV, on stand-by probably as cool as a cucumber therefore virtually no power drain.
Check out you’re phone charger, probably cooler than the phone battery it’s charging therefore virtually no power drain.
Also lets get a look at some real comparisons about electricity power usage.

TABLE OF POWER COMPARISONS

So if you want to be cool about your green credentials then, in order of importance, the things to stop using are:

Baths and showers
Cooking in the oven, storage heating
Having the trendy decorative lights on, or the garden lights on.

Remember that whether you’re burning gas, coal, oil or wood these all create Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and probably more so than a highly efficient power station.

And way way way down on the scale of power consumption is all the stuff we’re told to do :-

Don’t leave the TV on stand by.
Don’t leave you’re mobile phone charger on etc.

These do not make a jot of difference to the bigger picture so why are all the real energy eaters not mentioned.

Think of the billions of Kilo Watt hours wasted in lighting Britain's motorways for 12 hours a day.
Think of the millions of Kilo Watt hours wasted in heating swimming pools etc. around the country.
Think of the millions of Kilo Watt hours wasted heating unoccupied rooms.

Note:
If a light is dimmed or flashed then it can only use less energy.
